BEP Meets with International Trade Reps
Monday, June 21, 2010

Reading, PA - Pamela Shupp, Vice President, Berks Economic Partnership (BEP), recently presented to a group of Pennsylvania international representatives for direct investment at the Komax solar facility in York, PA.  The event was hosted by The Smart Market of SouthCentral Pennsylvania and the World Trade Center of Central Pennsylvania. Shupp presented to the group on behalf of the Smart Market.

The international trade representatives are responsible for bringing foreign direct investment opportunities to Pennsylvania and represented countries such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, South Korea, and Japan.  Shupp said that the event was an excellent platform to showcase the benefits of foreign investment in SouthCentral Pennsylvania.  “We welcome building long-term relationships with foreign investors who may be interested in establishing a presence here, entering into a joint venture with a local company, or engaging in technology transfer,” Shupp said.

The Smart Market is comprised of eight counties in SouthCentral Pennsylvania, including Berks County, that work together to promote the region’s strengths as a business location.  Other counties included in the Smart Market include Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Perry, and York.  Darrell Auterson, President and CEO of the York County Economic Development Corporation, and current Chair of the Smart Market, was also in attendance.

The World Trade Center of Central Pennsylvania supports the growth of international trade in SouthCentral Pennsylvania by connecting businesses locally and globally.  The membership organization offers educational and networking programs, up-to-date trade information, practical trade assistance, and research and referral services.  It is also a member of The World Trade Centers Association, a group dedicated to expanding global business opportunities.
