BEP Represented at SouthCentral Team Pennsylvania Event
Friday, May 28, 2010

Pamela Shupp, Vice President, Berks Economic Partnership (BEP), participated in a SouthCentral Team Pennsylvania fundraising event earlier this week in Harrisburg to support the promotion of the SouthCentral PA region for business retention, expansion, and attraction.

The event featured keynote speaker, Dr. G. Terry Madonna, who is a nationally recognized political pollster and Director of the Center for Politics and Public Affairs at Franklin and Marshall College.  He discussed the May primary voting results and the upcoming Governor's race and Senate race.

SouthCentral PA, also known as The Smart Market, is a nine-county economic region in southcentral PA, including Berks County, and adjacent to the Maryland border.  The region is one of the fastest growing, dynamic, and productive regions in the Commonwealth, with a highly skilled, well-trained, dependable, and loyal workforce.  Strategically located close to major domestic and international markets, 40 percent of the Unites States population and more than 60 percent of Canada's population lie within a 500-mile radius of the region.

Shupp, who represented BEP at the event, said, "It is vitally important that Berks County align itself with the southcentral region since we share many of the same industry strengths in agribusiness and food processing, advanced manufacturing, and life sciences.  Marketing the region internationally to these industries is strategically important."
