Berks County will get one of eight large-scale solar projects in Pennsylvania subsidized with federal stimulus money, the state Department of Environmental Protection announced Jan. 20.
UGI Development Co. will receive $1.29 million to install a 1 megawatt solar facility on about seven acres at the UGI Energy Services Inc. propane plant in Ontelaunee Township, according to a release from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The solar facility will be used to offset some of the energy requirements of the existing facility.
"We're now on track to be one of the top five states for producing solar energy by the end of the year," Gov. Ed Rendell stated in the DEP release.
