Berks County is governed by three elected-at-large commissioners. The Board of Commissioners serve four-year terms and perform the executive and legislative functions of county government.
The county seat is the City of Reading which is governed by an elected Mayor, an appointed City Manager, and seven Council Members (six elected by district and one at-large Council President).
The county consists of 73 municipalities including the City of Reading, 28 boroughs, and 44 townships.
Berks County is located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. With a population over 12 million citizens, Pennsylvania has the 16th largest economy in the world.
